Experience the authentic at your own pace

Welcome to Slow Guide

- and an experience where curiosity and presence go hand in hand. Slow Guide is for those who want to slow down, explore with curiosity and support the local while travelling. It gives you an overview of both well-known and hidden places, each with something special - whether you're looking for inspiration, art, vintage finds, second-hand treasures or unique crafts.

At Toppen af Danmark, we want to inspire people to travel in ways that both create great experiences and respect the place you're visiting. That's why we created Slow Guide - a digital guide to galleries, antique shops, second-hand shops and artisans throughout Vendsyssel.

Mapping the creative and recycled Vendsyssel

We've created a comprehensive map of the area's galleries, vintage and antique shops and thrift stores - so you can easily find your way to the many places where culture, creativity and history unfold.

All relevant places are included, large and small, and represent a wide range of local commerce and culture. Some of the operators have chosen to work particularly actively with recycling, reducing consumption or local production - and we highlight them throughout the guide to make it easier to make conscious choices when travelling.

A unique alternative with care

Slow Guide is not a traditional shopping guide. It's a carefully curated platform that gives you access to some of the most special places in Vendsyssel - from small galleries and artist-run workshops to local second-hand and vintage shops and antique stores.

What makes the Slow Guide unique is its focus on the personal and the local. Each place in the guide has its own story and character - shaped by the people who live and work there. It's not about quick stops or quick purchases, but about discovering places with depth, craftsmanship and history.

When you use Slow Guide, you don't just find your way to things and places - you get closer to the people behind them. You become part of a meeting where there is time to ask, listen and be inspired. You'll support local initiatives and connect visitors with the people who keep small places and big dreams alive.

It's about travelling with curiosity, being present - and taking home something that lasts.

Every choice makes a difference

We believe that small choices can make a difference. When you choose second-hand over new, local over mass-produced - you save resources and support a more circular economy. With Slow Guide, we make it easier to make those choices without compromising on the experience - on the contrary.

At the same time, we make room for stories about how local organisations work. Some focus on repair and upcycling, others on arts and crafts with materials from the local area. What they all have in common is that they offer the opportunity to experience Vendsyssel in a genuine and present way.

Slow Guide is supported by the EU ST3ER programme

The Slow Guide was created with the support of ST3ER (Sustainable Tourism Through Engaging and Empowering Rural areas) - an EU programme that promotes sustainable tourism and green transition in rural and remote areas. The funding has made it possible to map and publicise the many unique places that deserve to be seen and supported - both for their cultural and environmental value.

Explore at your own pace

Slow Guide is easy to use - both from home and on the go. Find nearby places, plan your excursions and get inspired to explore what makes Vendsyssel special.

Whether you're looking for a special antique, want to find art with a local identity, or just want to support good local initiatives, Slow Guide is for you.

Become a more responsible tourist - and give something back

Travelling responsibly isn't just about caring - it's also about contributing. When you choose local products, you help create positive change - for the people who live and work here. It's called regenerative tourism - when you're not only avoiding wear and tear on the site, but actually helping to strengthen it.

As a tourist, you can give back in many ways. You can support locally produced goods, eat seasonal food, take your shopping home in a reusable bag - or just take the time to ask and listen when you meet the people who live and work here. Be curious and treat the place with respect. It makes your experience richer - and it makes a difference.

Slow Guide is designed to make those choices easier. We point out places that have heart and attitude and help you find them. It's not hard to be a better tourist - it starts with awareness and small steps in the right direction.

So the next time you buy a unique craft, recycle instead of buying new, or chat to a local entrepreneur - remember: You're not just visiting. You're part of something bigger.
