The hub in Frederikshavn: A local flea market universe with heart and team spirit

In an anonymous industrial building on Suderbovej in Frederikshavn hides a true recycling oasis - Knudepunktet. Here you will not only find great flea market finds, but also a very special atmosphere, driven by local commitment, community and love of recycling.

We stopped by the Hub to discover what makes it so unique. What we found was much more than a flea market.

From forensics to screaming

Behind the counter we meet Kim Larsen, new owner of Knudepunktet since April 2024. After 40 years in the police, where he worked on some of the country's most complex criminal cases in the forensic department, he is now retired - and has thrown his energy into an old passion: antiques, retro finds and good old-fashioned junk.

- I've always loved hunting for second-hand treasures, says Kim.
- And now I get to do it every day - in a store that I shopped in for years before I took it over.

As a local Frederikshavner with a strong connection to the city, it has been important for Kim to maintain the local flavour of the store - and continue the spirit of the hub that many in the area already know and love.

A platform for responsible consumption

The hub works like a classic commission flea market: private individuals can rent a stand, price their goods and have them sold via the store's system. It's recycling with structure - and with room for both beginners and experienced flea marketers.

But it's not just second-hand crockery and retro lamps that sell here. It's the idea that it makes sense to act responsibly - that circular economy doesn't have to be complicated and that the local community becomes stronger when we support each other.

Shopping at the Hub is not just a purchase - it's a way of taking a stand. Every item has a story, and every cent that changes hands makes a difference locally.

Employees with purpose

One of the things you immediately notice when you walk in is the atmosphere. A calm, friendly and helpful energy. This is not least due to the employees, who all work in the store on special conditions - such as flex jobs, internships or work trials.

- "I have no full-time employees," says Kim, "but I have a fantastic team of loyal, talented employees who each make a difference. Their commitment and joy rubs off on customers - and creates the atmosphere that the hub is known for.

It's not just about sales. It's about human relationships. About being met at eye level. And about giving people a place where they can be useful and feel valued.

A place you must experience

If you're a tourist in Vendsyssel - or a local with a penchant for treasure hunting - Knudepunktet is an obvious place to visit. Not just for the things you can find, but for the history, people and values that come with it.

You support the local economy, circular thinking and a store where community and flexibility go hand in hand.
